Two summers ago I missed the window. Vacation-season nails started trending in May, I restocked in June, and by the time my ocean designs arrived the customers had booked their flights — with last year’s manicure photos. This year I planned backwards from the calendar, and Sea Star Lagoon is the design I lead the summer wall with. Here’s the stocking logic and the wear log, so you can judge both.

Beach designs don’t compete with the rest of your catalog — they compete with the trip. Customers buy them before travel the way they buy sunscreen: as part of the packing list. Turquoise shallows, a little blush starfish, pearly shells — Sea Star Lagoon photographs against water and sand, which means your customers’ vacation photos become your product photos. That’s the quiet engine of this category: the design gets worn in exactly the setting it illustrates.
The failure mode is water, and this is where category reviews get brutal: “Put these on Friday evening. It’s Sunday afternoon and I’ve already lost four.” and “took another shower and three more of my nails popped off.” Ocean designs get worn into pools and salt water, so weak adhesive gets found out fast — and the one-star review writes itself before the flight home.
I wore this set through exactly the scenarios that kill weak strips:
Two things make that log repeatable rather than lucky: medical-grade adhesive on the back (the answer to the shower-review problem above), and a tempered gel formula — the factory cures it genuinely hard in 60 seconds, scratch-resistant, no top coat. The other detail is sizing: “most were too big. Had to cut them” is a real complaint about this category, and it matters double on a printed ocean design, where cutting distorts the starfish. Sea Star Lagoon comes in 24 mixed sizes, so the print lands intact on every nail width.
Plan backwards: orders land 2–3 weeks after you place them, so the May trend window means ordering in April. I retail at $5.99 against a $0.89 factory invoice — the margin funds the ad spend that summer demand already clicks on. Minimum order is 20 boxes per design; pair it with one quiet neutral so the wall isn’t all theme. Compliance documents come before you ask.
The honest cons: seasonal demand is real — this design cools off in September, so size the order to the season, not to ambition. And you need UV/LED lamps in stock; beach-day customers buying their first set won’t own one.
Sea Star Lagoon is on the factory’s wholesale site with the full sheet and mixed sizes. Order the 20-box minimum, wear a set through one actual pool day before you list it, and use that day-6 photo. Vacation nails sell themselves in the right season — if the formula survives the vacation.
